Privacy policy

We collect what the site needs to work and not much else. We do not sell your information. Your email address is never shown on a listing — buyers reach you through messages here, which is deliberate: it keeps member contact details from being harvested off public pages.

• Account: email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash — we never see them.
• Profile: handle, display name, optional bio, optional phone number, your home state and city, and your preferred search radius.
• Dealers: if you mark yourself a licensed dealer, the business name on the licence.
• Listings: everything in the ad, including photos and the location you give.
• Messages: the content of messages you send other members through the site.
• Reports: what you tell us when you report a listing.

Standard server and security logs — IP address, browser and device type, pages requested, timestamps, and the page that referred you. These are used to keep the site running, diagnose faults, and detect abuse.

Public: your handle and display name, your bio, the city and state on a listing, and the listing itself with its photos.

Not public: your email address, your phone number, your exact address or postcode, and the contents of your messages.

Bear in mind that anything you type into a listing or a message is visible to the person you send it to. Do not put information in a listing you would not want a stranger to have.

Transactional email only by default: confirming your address, resetting your password, and notices about your account. If you switch on alerts for a saved search, we send those too, and you can switch them off again at any time in your account.

We do not sell your information. We share it only:

• with service providers who run parts of the site on our behalf — hosting, database and email delivery — and only so they can perform that work
• with another member, to the extent you chose to share it by posting or messaging
• where we are legally required to, or where we believe in good faith it is necessary to prevent imminent harm
• with a successor if the business is sold, subject to this policy

We respond to lawful process. Absent an emergency involving a risk of serious harm, we require valid legal process — a subpoena, court order or warrant, as the request demands — before disclosing member information. Requests go to [LEGAL NOTICES EMAIL].

We use cookies for two things: keeping you signed in, and remembering that you have accepted the entry disclaimer so you are not asked on every page. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Blocking cookies will stop you being able to sign in.

Listings may link elsewhere, and we may one day carry advertising. We do not control those sites and this policy does not apply to them. Read theirs.

Account and profile information is kept while your account is open. Listings are kept while live and for a period afterwards so disputes can be investigated. Messages and reports are retained as a record of what happened. Logs are kept for a limited period for security. Backups persist for a while after deletion.

You can edit or delete your profile information and your listings at any time from your account, and you can close your account entirely. Closing it removes your listings from the site. To request a copy of your information or its deletion, write to [PRIVACY EMAIL].

Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your personal information. We will honour them where they apply.

Access to member data is restricted at the database level so one member cannot read another's messages, saved items or contact details. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security — use a strong, unique password.

2A List is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we learn we have, we delete it.

The site and its data are hosted in the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, you are sending your information to the United States, where the privacy laws differ from your own.

We may update this policy. Material changes will be flagged on the site. The revision date at the top always reflects the current version.
